2024 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L Preview

Honda has given its Africa Twin adventure-touring lineup a makeover for 2024, with updates to the chassis, electronics, engine, and styling. Several updates affect both the Adventure Sports ES and standard editions, while a few key tweaks affect each version separately. The Adventure Sports ES starts at $17,599 ($18,399 for the DCT model) and the standard Africa Twin will price at $14,799 ($15,599 for DCT). Both will be available from Honda dealers starting this May.

Revisions to the 1,084cc twin engine are across the board, and include a redesigned intake/exhaust system, updated valve timing, and an increase in the compression ratio to 10.5:1. Honda claims the changes result in a 7 percent torque increase, most noticeable in the middle of the rev range. The fuel-injection mapping settings have been revised on all models as well in order to optimize performance.

The Adventure Sports ES receives a new 19-inch front wheel (the previous edition was fitted with a 21-incher) to improve on-road performance. As a result, suspension travel has been shortened and the seat height lowered to give riders improved handling feel on the asphalt. Amenities such as cruise control, heated grips, and electronically controlled suspension remain standard on the Adventure Sports ES in both manual and DCT versions.

The Africa Twin, meanwhile, retains the more off-road-friendly 21-inch front, 18-inch rear wheel configuration as before. It comes with new tubeless tires along with an updated five-position windscreen and new fairing design.

“The Africa Twin is a mainstay of Honda’s adventure lineup, and we’re happy to bring this platform update to our customers for 2024,” Brandon Wilson, manager of racing and experiential marketing at American Honda, said in a company press release. “With the recent addition of the midsize Transalp, and now this updated Africa Twin, it’s clear that Honda is committed to the adventure category, and to delivering capable machines to fuel enthusiasts’ desire to explore.”
