BARRETT-JACKSON DAY 6: First Charity Car of the 2024 Scottsdale Auction Crosses the Block and Dozens of Auction Records Set
LOT #3000 – 2023 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 3LZ – SOLD! $220,000 BENEFITING THE CHIP MILLER AMYLOIDOSIS FOUNDATION

On Thursday, January 25, one of the most heartfelt moments on the Barrett-Jackson block was the sale of the first of the auction’s four charity vehicles. Lot #3000, a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3LZ, brought the gavel down on a winning bid of $220,000. With no fees or commissions added to charity cars, 100% of the hammer price will go directly to The Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of amyloidosis and raise funds for educational and research purposes.

The 2024 Scottsdale Auction has continued to set auction world records day after day with many spectacular sales. Thursday was a shining example, with over 30 auction world records broken and set. Highlights of the day included Lot #792.1, a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435, Lot #803.1, a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, and Lot #806, a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air custom hardtop. Each sold for $220,000.

Other notable sales from the day included Lot #801, a 1979 Ford Bronco Custom SUV, for $216,700; Lot #740, a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Lot #801.1, a 1970 Chevrolet K10 custom pickup, each selling for $176,000.

Guests visiting Barrett-Jackson were able to experience excitement on and off the auction block. American businessman and “Shark Tank” television personality Daymond John stopped by the auction site to meet with fans as part of two autograph sessions and joined Craig Jackson and Steve Davis on the auction block to see the sale of a few auction cars directly from the podium. Barrett-Jackson also hosted the Ford Youth Initiative in the morning, where teenagers from around the valley were able to enjoy a Hot Lap in the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse and spend time with Shelby American President Gary Patterson. The morning’s Collector Car Symposium focused on the new wave of automotive influencers, with judges from the 2024 Future Collector Car Show – held earlier in the week – serving as speakers.

Also on Thursday, the last finalist for the 2024 Barrett-Jackson Cup was revealed: a bare-metal 1959 Chevrolet Impala built by Troy Gudgel at BBT Fabrications for the “Castrol: Path to Performance” YouTube series. The Impala will join the other four finalists on the auction stage on Saturday, January 27, to learn who will be crowned Ultimate Best of Show and take home the $20,000 cash purse.

Following tradition, the day also included the auction of colorful, eye-catching automobilia. Thursday’s top seller was Lot #9294, a large circa 1950s Texaco Oil porcelain sign for $40,250. Other significant items to cross the block included Lot #9290.1, a 1951 Gulf Oil Bowser Siamese Rol-Way Dual-Sided Gas Pump and Lot #9292.1, a 1920s Texaco Oil American visible gas pump. A vintage Ronald McDonald statue (Lot #9279.1) was among the top automobilia sales of the day, as well as a circa 1930s-40s Seiberling Tires tin sign (Lot #9299.1).

Guests also explored the vast Exhibitor Marketplace and vehicle display tents, enjoyed the festival of food offered throughout the auction site at WestWorld, and took in the evening’s entertainment, which – in addition to the auction action – included live music at the South Showcase Stage. Live music performances continue Friday and Saturday night from 7 to 9 p.m.

As the Barrett-Jackson 2024 Scottsdale Auction heads into its high-octane final three days, the collector cars are heading into the fast lane. On Friday, January 26, over 400 more of the world’s most sought-after vehicles will cross the block with No Reserve.

Catch the action on the livestream all day and into the night, or watch on History from 1 to 4 p.m. and FYI from 4 to 10 p.m.

In addition to all-day tickets, special Evening Session pricing is available for entry after 5 p.m. Join us on-site after work — the activities don’t stop until the last car crosses the block!

Beach Boy: A surf-ready Yamaha WR155R scrambler from Thailand

Yamaha WR155R scrambler by Dream Fast Co.
A surfboard rack on a motorcycle might seem like a gimmick to some, but if you live in Bali and love surfing, it’s a downright necessity. The Indonesian island is peppered with surf spots—and a small bike with a rack is the best way to get to them. It doesn’t hurt if that motorcycle looks as good as this Yamaha WR155R scrambler.

The bike was built by Dream Fast Co. for Tiw, the founder of the Laem Yah Rayong Surf Club. Both parties are based in Thailand, but the influence came directly from Bali’s motorcycle and surf culture. Tiw has Balinese friends who use vintage enduro bikes to find hard-to-reach surf spots, and wanted to capture that vibe in his Yamaha WR155R.

Dream Fast Co.’s mandate was to take the modern and reliable WR155R and inject it with a big dose of classic Yamaha dirt bike style. It sounds simple enough on paper, but in reality, it meant wading through piles of plastic to shed the WR155R’s contemporary aesthetic.

Once the Yamaha was denuded of its plastics, the Dream Fast Co. crew set about reworking its lines. The subframe was hacked off, and a new one was fabricated, this time with a kicked-up loop at the back. A new seat sits up top; it’s designed for one, but there is a smidge of space out back if you and your passenger want to get extremely cozy.
