CRUISING ON CARBON: The Allure of the 2021 Ford GT Carbon Series

Written by Nicole Ellan James

2024 PALM BEACH AUCTION – 2021 FORD GT CARBON SERIES – NO RESERVE

The Ford GT traces its lineage back to the legendary GT40, a car that made history by dominating the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s. Inspired by this iconic race car, Ford introduced the modern GT in 2005, paying homage to its predecessor while pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering. With its sleek design and blistering performance, the Ford GT quickly became a symbol of American automotive excellence. In 2016, Ford reintroduced the GT for a new generation, showcasing cutting-edge technology and performance. Today, the Ford GT continues to uphold its legacy as an icon of speed and innovation.

Ford introduced the Carbon Series in 2019. This variant of the Ford GT was designed to further enhance performance by incorporating lightweight carbon-fiber components, reducing overall weight and improving aerodynamics. The Carbon Series offered enthusiasts a more track-focused version of the already impressive Ford GT. From its striking design to its performance prowess, every aspect of this supercar has been thoughtfully created.

Design is just one of the elements that makes the 2021 Ford GT Carbon Series so captivating. With aerodynamics in mind, every curve and contour serve a purpose, allowing the car to slice through the air with minimal resistance. The Carbon Series takes this design to the next level with a lightweight carbon-fiber body that not only enhances performance but also adds a touch of elegance to its appearance. From the iconic flying buttresses to the sleek hood vents, every detail of the Carbon Series is crafted for performance with the bonus of turning heads, leaving a lasting impression on all those who see it.

Beyond its striking exterior, the Ford GT Carbon Series boasts an impressive array of performance features that make it an exceptional machine on the road and especially on the track. At its heart lies a potent 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, capable of producing a staggering 660 horsepower. Paired with a lightning-fast 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, this powerhouse of an engine propels the Carbon Series from 0 to 60 mph in just under 3 seconds, delivering adrenaline-pumping acceleration that is sure to leave drivers satisfied.

But it’s not just straight-line speed where the Carbon Series excels; it’s also a star around corners. Thanks to its advanced suspension system and active aerodynamics, the Carbon Series delivers superior handling and agility, allowing drivers to tackle twists and turns with confidence and precision.

In addition to its impressive performance credentials, the Carbon Series also boasts a range of innovative features designed to enhance the driving experience. From its customizable driving modes to its intuitive infotainment system, every aspect of the Carbon Series is engineered with the driver in mind.

But perhaps what truly sets the Carbon Series apart is its exclusivity. Only 50 Carbon Series vehicles were produced between 2019 and 2022. All 50 vehicles are part of the current Ford GT’s limited production run of 1,350 cars. Production of the latest-generation Ford GT spanned 2017 through 2022, meaning only a fortunate few will have the opportunity to own one. Even fewer have the chance to own a Carbon Series.

The example offered with No Reserve during the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction, April 18-20 at the South Florida Fairgrounds, is finished in Frozen White and has been optioned with the 600A equipment group, which includes titanium lug nuts, a titanium exhaust, a lightweight Alcantara steering wheel and a lightweight titanium tow hook, in addition to the carbon-fiber graphics package and gloss exterior carbon-fiber package.

Pushing the boundaries of performance and design with its striking looks, exhilarating performance and exclusivity, the Carbon Series represents the pinnacle of what a supercar can be. For those fortunate enough to experience it, this vehicle offers a driving experience that is unforgettable. Register to bid today to make it yours and join the lofty ranks of Carbon Series ownership.

The auction arena was buzzing with excitement throughout the day on Friday at the 2024 Palm Beach Auction, with the arena erupting into cheers on a number of occasions as several highly anticipated vehicles had their turn on the block.

In a diverse offering that ranged from classic SUVs and modern muscle to pickup trucks and ’50s favorites with fabulous fins, more than 200 vehicles made their way across the Barrett-Jackson block on Day 2 at the South Florida Fairgrounds. A 1981 Chevrolet Corvette Greenwood Daytona Turbo (Lot #431) took top honors for the day – and set a new world auction record – with its $247,500 sale. It was followed by a 1968 Ford Mustang Eleanor replica (Lot #416) that crossed the block for $162,800.

Collections were in the spotlight on Friday, with vehicles from John Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams among bidders’ favorites. Notable sales from that collection included a 1958 Buick Special Convertible (Lot #376) with its $126,500 sale (a new world auction record) and a 1959 Chrysler Imperial Crown Convertible (Lot #400) that sold for $110,000.

General Motors brought several special vehicles to sell in Florida. The collector cars weren’t the only stars in attendance today. American businessman and “Shark Tank” television personality Daymond John stopped by to check out the vehicles on and off the block, as did Viktor Knavs, the father of former First Lady Melania Trump.

A 1950s Chris-Craft Woody Speedboat kiddie ride (Lot #7283) came out on top during the morning’s Automobilia Auction with its $27,600 sale. A circa 1948 Texaco Oil Bennett Model #756 gas pump (Lot #7282), a 1946 Mobil Oil M/S 80 gas pump (Lot #7268.3) and a 1960 Gulf Oil Tokheim Model #300 gas pump in Heritage Edition GT colors (Lot #7285), along with a 1940s-50s Cadillac Authorized Service porcelain sign with neon (Lot #7298), also caught the attention of bidders.

Of course, there’s also much to do and see outside of the auction arena, including the Summit Showcase, which features several aftermarket companies offering automotive products. Those who place orders with these companies – as well as anything on the Summit Racing website – during the event receive 10% off the order plus free shipping. Guests in attendance also had the opportunity to browse the Exhibitor Marketplace, which offers everything from automotive artwork and gleaming statues to furniture composed of automotive parts, such as engine blocks.

K-Speed strikes again with a menacing Honda Dax café racer

honda dax cafe racer 745x497 1

When the Honda Dax was brought back into production a couple of years ago, K-Speed wasted little time getting their grubby paws on it. The Thai powerhouse’s founder, the mysterious Mr Eak, had a 50 cc Dax as a teenager—and the workshop is particularly good at customizing small Hondas. So a K-Speed-customized Dax was inevitable.

Two years on, and K-Speed is still finding interesting ways to cram massive levels of badassery into Honda’s bite-sized mini-bike. This time, they’ve turned the Dax into an uber-sassy—albeit impossibly compact—café racer.

Although K-Speed churns out countless custom bikes a year for paying customers, this one was a shop build. Eak wanted to see how far he could push the 2024-model Honda ST125 Dax, visually, without modifying its pressed steel frame (which also houses its fuel tank). Luckily K-Speed has an extensive range of Honda mini-bike parts to draw from, manufactured under their ‘Diabolus’ brand.

Dubbed ‘Puppy Racer,’ K-Speed’s custom Honda Dax benefits most from a radical stance adjustment. The crew started with a new Diabolus front end, comprising upside-down forks and a more modern-looking top yoke. It sits lower than the stock setup, as do the twin Diabolus shocks that now prop up the rear.

DAY 1 IN PALM BEACH: Sunshine, Auction Cars and the Unveiling of a New Shelby Started the Event with Florida Style
2024 Shelby Super Snake unveiled at the 2024 Palm Beach Auction.

As thousands of car enthusiasts streamed through the gates of The World’s Greatest Collection Car Auctions on Thursday, they were met with sunshine, blue skies and over 600 collector cars on display at the 2024 Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction.

The auction site at the South Florida Fairgrounds offered something for everyone on the first day of the event. Guests were able to see all the collector cars before they had their turn on the famous auction block, check out interactive displays and demonstrations from more than 100 exhibitors and sponsors, and grab a bite to eat from a wide variety of offerings.

The day’s activities included the demonstration of a 1976 Leopard 1 A5 Battle Tank (Lot #696), which will cross the block with No Reserve on Saturday, April 20, highlighted by the unmistakable rumble of its 37.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine and the turning of the turret. Additional demonstrations are scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. near the South Showcase.

Another must-experience highlight of the day was an exhilarating ride around the Barrett-Jackson Performance Track with a professional driver at the Dodge Thrill Rides and Ford Hot Laps. In addition, the Volvo Driving Experience gave guests the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a new Volvo for a cruise along the streets of Palm Beach.

Of course, the real not-to-be-missed element of the event was watching all the exciting bidding action in the arena itself.

The morning’s activity began with nearly 200 examples of collectible cool up on the block during the Automobilia Auction, where Lot #6299.2, a large Kenny Rogers Roasters light-up sign and Lot #6298.4, a Chevrolet OK Used Cars neon sign, proved to be the stars of Thursday’s show. Three gas pumps also took the spotlight: a 1940s-50s Gulf Bennett Model #646 (Lot #6291) and a late-1940s/early-50s Gulf Oil Premium Gasoline Tokheim 39 (Lot #6292). A late-1940s/early-1950s Texaco Bennett Model 756 (Lot #6289.1) rounded out the day’s top five automobilia sales.

Before the collector cars started to cross the block for the day, Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson was joined on the block by President Steve Davis, along with Shelby American President Gary Patterson, Vice President of Operations Vince LaViolette, and Sales and Marketing Manager Kash Singh, as well as Tracy Smith, Executive Vice President of Carroll Shelby International, to debut Shelby’s latest creation: the 2024 Shelby Super Snake. The special car, along with a convertible version, will be on display throughout the Palm Beach event in the Shelby American display.

Over 175 of the more than 600 No Reserve collector cars on this year’s docket took their turn on the block Thursday, with 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible (Lot #106.1), a 1970 Ford Torino custom coupe (Lot #100.1), 2007 Aston Martin DB9 Volante (Lot #103) and a 1968 Ford Mustang GT convertible (Lot #108) all taking top honors for the day.

The first two cars from John Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams Collection had their turn in the spotlight today. The first, a 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire convertible (Lot #82), was among the top sales of the day, and it was followed by Lot #82.1, a 1974 Volkswagen Thing convertible. The remaining vehicles in the collection will cross the block on Friday and Saturday with No Reserve.

The Palm Beach Auction runs through Saturday, with tickets and bidder registration available on Barrett-Jackson.com. Join us this weekend and soak in all the excitement the auction has to offer.
