bestdirectors61681902893 1 It’s that time of the year when Bollywood gears up to celebrate the finest cinematic achievements at one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in India – the Filmfare Awards. The Filmfare Awards are presented annually by The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the film industry of India. The Filmfare ceremony is one of the oldest film events in India. The awards were first introduced in 1954. Hindi cinema has given some exceptional magical moments over the years that will be cherished and remembered for a lifetime. Filmfare continues to contribute to this legacy by honouring the stalwarts who are redefining Hindi cinema. For decades, the elegant and prestigious Black Lady has been the epitome of credibility and success in the world of Indian cinema.

The 68th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2023 with Maharashtra Tourism will be held on April 27, 2023, at the Jio World Conventional Centre in Mumbai. The event promises to be a star-studded celebration of the best Hindi cinema has to offer in 2022. The Filmfare Best Director Award is one of the main awards presented to recognise directors working in Hindi cinema. It was first awarded in 1954 in the inaugural year. As we await the upcoming Filmfare Awards, take a look at the directors with the most awards.

Best Directors

Bimal Roy has won the award 7 Times

Within a little over a decade, Bimal Roy was able to establish himself as one of the top Hindi film directors. His thought-provoking yet entertaining cinema didn’t rely on lavish production values. In his socially relevant autobiographical stories (Biraj Bahu, Devdas, Madhumati, Sujata, Bandini), he used his perceptive camera lens which seemed to pierce into the human condition as well as bring the subtextual context into sharp relief to depict regular people who were thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Bimal Roy was a relative newbie to the Bombay film business when he created Do Bigha Zamin. The production of the movie in Mumbai was exceptional. It described how a homeless man scraped by on the streets. No opulent scenery, dream sequences, middle-class moral lessons, or fairy-tale elements were present. Do Bigha Zamin went on to win best film and best director at the first Indian Filmfare Awards in 1954. He then went on to win Best Director for Parineeta, Biraj Bahu, Madhumati, Sujata, Parakh and Bandini. Bimal Roy has won all the times he has been nominated.

Best Directors

Yash Chopra has won the award 4 times

He directed 22 movies throughout the course of a nearly 60-year career, becoming a titan in the Indian cinema business. He made a significant contribution to Hindi film, and it is safe to say that love stories in particular will always owe him a debt of gratitude. With decades of effort, Yash Chopra was able to define for generations of Indians what it means to be in love. To claim that he exclusively produced love stories would be to undervalue his contribution to Indian cinema. Via his Bollywood stories, he was arguably the best human relationship and dynamics researcher. Even in his romantic comedies, there was a realistic streak. Waqt focused on the division that resulted from Partition; Deewaar was a slice-of-life picture depicting a life of crime; Silsila and Lamhe dealt with extramarital relationships and May-December romance; and Darr illustrated the obsessional nature of love. Yash Chopra has received the Filmfare award for Best Director a total of 4 times with films such as Waqt, Ittefaq, Daag and Deewar. He is also the director with the most number of nominations ever received. In addition to Best Director four times he has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

Best Directors

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has won the award 4 times

With his jaw-dropping sets, iconic blockbusters, historical dramas, and flicks that transport us to a fantastical universe, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the most in-demand directors among Bollywood actors. Whether you refer to him as the master of drama, romance, or epic movie locations, you can nearly always get caught up in the magic he conjures up on screen. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has revolutionised Indian cinema with his nine epic opuses, including Black, Saawariya, Padmaavat, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Devdas. By igniting a movement that emphasises beautiful sets, crisp direction, thematic backgrounds, carefully choreographed scenes, and epic mega-musicals, he has transformed Indian cinema. He has won the Filmfare award for Best Director 4 times for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Black and Bajirao Mastani. Interestingly Black won a total of 11 awards at the ceremony, setting a record at the time for the most trophies for a single film which was only broken by Gully Boy years later.

Best Directors

Raj Kapoor has won the award 4 times

Raj Kapoor rose to prominence in Indian cinema during the so-called “golden period” in the first two decades after the country’s independence in 1947 as a director, producer, and actor. With one face turned towards the goals of the post-independence era and the other towards the current condition of star-driven Hindi film with its broad appeal and international audience, Kapoor resembles a Janus figure in certain ways. At the age of 24, he founded RK Studios after working with numerous technicians, and it was with this that he began his career as a storyteller. Although Raj Kapoor changed his style of filmmaking to suit the times, it was his work from the 1950s that made him a pioneer of Hindi cinema. Raj Kapoor has won the award a total of 4 times with films such as Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, Prem Rog, and Ram Teri Ganga Maili.

This year, the Filmfare Awards promises you to be filled with entertainment and other fun filled endless moments. 2023 Emmy Predictions: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Published

20 1

We will update this article throughout the season, along with all our predictions, so make sure to keep checking IndieWire for the latest news from the 2023 Emmys race. The nomination round of voting takes place from June 15 to June 26, with the official Emmy nominations announced Wednesday, July 12. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be presented over two consecutive nights on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, with an edited presentation of the ceremonies to be broadcast on FXX at a later date. Finally, the 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards take place on Monday, September 18, and air live on FOX at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT.

The State of the Race

If anyone deserved an Emmy for their acceptance speech alone, it would be recent Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series winner Sheryl Lee Ralph (technically last year’s telecast falls into this year’s eligibility window, so why not throw her another recognition?).

One of the appeals of her show “Abbott Elementary” is just how giving the ABC comedy is to its ensemble, so though Ralph is the frontrunner, co-star Janelle James (another returning nominee) could just as fittingly win for her standout performance as Principal Ava in Season 2. Plus, with shows like “Hacks” out of the running this year, there is more room for “Abbott Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter to make it in too this time.

As for the network comedy’s biggest competition, look no further than comedy juggernaut “Ted Lasso,” which boasts an Emmy-winning performance from Hannah Waddingham, plus multiple nominations for Juno Temple. Though the presumed final season of the show was not the most showy for their characters, there is little doubt that they both will make it into the category this year.

“Barry” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” coming to an end this season paves the way for past nominees Sarah Goldberg, Alex Borstein, and Marin Hinkle to join them, though there is a trio of formidable newcomers as well, with “The Bear” Ayo Edebiri and “Shrinking” stars Jessica Williams and Christa Miller getting meaty enough supporting work on new hit series to warrant awards attention.

Current Contenders (In Alphabetical Order):
Zazie Beetz, “Atlanta” (FX)
Alex Borstein, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Prime Video)
Ayo Edebiri, “The Bear” (Hulu)
Sarah Goldberg, “Barry” (HBO)
Marin Hinkle, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Prime Video)
Janelle James, “Abbott Elementary” (ABC)
Jane Krakowski, “Schmigadoon” (Apple TV+)
Christa Miller, “Shrinking” (Apple TV+)
Ego Nwodim, “Saturday Night Live” (NBC)
Sheryl Lee Ralph, “Abbott Elementary” (ABC)
Cecily Strong, “Saturday Night Live” (NBC)
Juno Temple, “Ted Lasso” (Apple TV+)
Hannah Waddingham, “Ted Lasso” (Apple TV+)
Lisa Ann Walter, “Abbott Elementary” (ABC)
Jessica Williams, “Shrinking” (Apple TV+)

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

Last Year’s Winner: Sheryl Lee Ralph, “Abbott Elementary”
Still Eligible: Yes.
Hot Streak: Last year was Sheryl Lee Ralph’s first Emmy win for “Abbott Elementary,” so no streak yet, but if she did win again, she would become the first Black actress to win this category twice.
Notable Ineligible Series: Hannah Einbinder, “Hacks” (Season 3 was not eligible)

Adam Silver Slid A Subtle Ja Morant Joke Into The End Of A Radio Appearance

Published

on

as 1

NBA commissioner Adam Silver spends most of his public appearances being very serious as he discusses league business. Usually he is being asked about things like larger plans for the future (like the in-season tournament or expansion) or how the NBA is handling a delicate situation, like the investigation into Ja Morant‘s latest video holding a gun on Instagram Live.

As such, there aren’t a lot of opportunities for him to show off a sense of humor, but he couldn’t help but make a sly little joke while ending an interview with Dan Patrick on Thursday. As they talked about players carrying the ball and Adam Sandler, Patrick joked he would get the Sandman to do a PSA for an Anti-Carrying Program for the NBA. That opened the door for Silver to make a subtle crack about how an “Anti-Carrying Program” could hold a double meaning, seemingly referencing the ongoing saga with Morant.

It’s kind of jarring to see Silver let this one fly given he typically stays buttoned up, but Patrick seemed to be right on it and understood he was referring to Morant. I also think this is less him making light of the situation and more expressing a little exasperation that this is the second time Morant has found himself in this spot, but I also have little doubt there will be some who are upset with the remark.
