2024 Moto Guzzi V85 Strada
Adventure bike manufacturers are currently locked into a giant arms race that’s unlikely to slow down anytime soon. Which is why the Moto Guzzi V85 TT is a breath of fresh air. It doesn’t make nearly as much power as its rivals or go quite as hard on the tech side—but it’s uniquely charming in a way that defies comparison.

It sounds like I’m damning it with faint praise, but the V85 TT truly does have a lot going for it. It decries the edgy plastic aesthetics of modern dual-sports in favor of classier lines, and its iconic transverse V-twin engine has character for days. Now it’s been updated for 2024 with a handful of key improvements—and the addition of the new Moto Guzzi V85 Strada.

2024 Moto Guzzi V85 TT

The full range now includes the original Moto Guzzi V85 TT [above], the long-distance-equipped V85 TT Travel, and the stripped-down, urbanized V85 Strada [top]. All three bikes are identical under the hood, differing only in trim. So all of Moto Guzzi’s updates carry over to all of them.

Starting with the visual changes, Moto Guzzi re-sculpted the V85’s 23 l fuel tank and redesigned its cylinder head covers. The distinctive mini-trellis frame that used to hold the headlight and dashboard cluster has been swapped out for a cast aluminum unit, with a matching aluminum grab handle out back. Both look far more modern, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss the utilitarian vibe of the older design.

SUNSHINE AND SUPERCARS: Day 3 in Florida Brings the Heat with Multiple Million-Dollar and High Six-Figure Sales
LOT #742 – 2022 FORD GT ALAN MANN HERITAGE EDITION – $1,292,500

The sun was shining during the final day of the 2024 Palm Beach Auction and supercars proved to be the superstars of the show, producing many exciting moments with big sales with an enthusiastic audience. The last of the more than 600 incredible collector vehicles made their way across the block on Saturday, resulting in over 20 record-breaking sales.

The day’s top seller was an Alan Mann Heritage Edition 2022 Ford GT (Lot #742), setting a new world auction record with its $1,292,500 sale, followed by a 2022 Ferrari SF90 (Lot #732) with its world auction record sale of $1.1 million. The third collector car to join the seven-figure club on Super Saturday was a 2021 Ford GT Carbon Series (Lot #721) with its $1,001,000 sale.

Ford GTs continued to command the top slots at the event, with a 2019 Ford GT (Lot #764) crossing the auction block for $902,000, followed by a 2005 Ford GT (Lot #725) for $451,000 and a 2005 Ford GT Heffner Performance Twin-Turbo (Lot #745) that sold for $374,000.

Other superstars of the show that landed in Saturday’s top sales included a 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (Lot #740) for a world auction record of $698,500, a 1946 Dodge Power Wagon custom pickup (Lot #746) for $363,000 and a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette custom convertible (Lot #716) for $335,500. A 1933 Pierce-Arrow Twelve convertible sedan (Lot #723), 2024 Jeep Gladiator Custom Demon 170 pickup (Lot #748) and the 1969 Dodge Charger “Joe Dirt Daytona” movie car (Lot #749.1) each brought in winning bids of $330,000.

In addition to all the supercars on the block, the Palm Beach chapter of the Ferrari Club of America ‒ along with dozens of participants and their vehicles from South Florida’s Supercar Saturdays ‒ joined in on the final day of Barrett-Jackson fun in Florida by rallying to the event. Dozens of young automotive enthusiasts and students were also on-site as part of the Ford Youth Initiative.

Celebrities in attendance on Saturday included Vicente “The Silent Assassin” Luque, a Brazilian and American professional mixed martial artist currently competing in the UFC welterweight division, who stopped by the auction to take in all the action.

The morning’s Automobilia Auction also brought some impressive sales. A spectacular Texaco Oil neon porcelain sign with animated neon (Lot #8296) from the late-1950s/early ’60s was the big winner of the day, with a final bid of $36,800. Other neons that earned a spot in the Top 5 included a large 1951 Mobil Oil porcelain Pegasus sign with animated neon (Lot #8299.1) that sold for $33,350 and a 1940s-50s American Gasoline porcelain with neon sign (Lot #8297.1) that crossed the block for $29,900. Gas pumps remained popular with bidders as well. A highlight was a 1928 Polly Gasoline Wayne Model 615 visible gas pump (Lot #8287) with its $34,500 sale, followed by a late-1950s Polly Oil fuel island with two Wayne 505 gas pumps (Lot #8283), which sold for $31,050.

Barrett-Jackson extends its heartfelt appreciation for the enthusiasm we received at our 2024 Palm Beach Auction from our incredible bidders, consignors, sponsors, exhibitors, guests and fans, along with the vibrant South Florida community. We look forward to seeing everyone at our 2024 Scottsdale Fall Auction at WestWorld, October 10-13.

Final Encore—Bizzarrini P538

RACEPRO201308 p1

Photo: Casey AnnisThe 1950s and 1960s were a time of rapid change in both the road and racecar world. Technology was advancing quickly and with this advancement, it became increasingly harder and harder for a lone individual—either engineer or visionary—to be solely responsible for a complete automobile. Yet, some amazing vehicles were given birth during this time by some of the last of these automotive prodigies. One such automotive savant was Italian Giotto Bizzarrini. A tenacious and talented engineer and development driver, Bizzarrini either created or played a major role in some of the most iconic cars of the 1960s, including several built under his own name. Any true understanding of Bizzarrini’s cars, however, first requires an understanding of the man, as the two are virtually inseparable.

Born Survivor

Giotto Bizzarrini was born in June 6, 1926, in Quercianella, near Livorno, Italy. Born into a long line of engineers, it is perhaps not surprising that Bizzarrini would gravitate toward things mechanical. However, his early childhood years were more dominated by soccer and hunting, at least until World War II intervened. When the war broke out, Giotto’s father took up arms against the Germans, leaving young Giotto behind to fend for his family. During the war years, times were tough and much of what the Bizzarrini family had to eat ended up coming from Giotto’s hunting prowess. Bizzarrini would look back on these years of deprivation and state, “That period really influenced me for the rest of my life. It made me into a survivor, somewhat of a maverick.”

Saturday special: An elegant three-wheeler with a Mazda engine

Custom three-wheeler with Mazda engine and motorcycle parts
Although Bike EXIF is dedicated to art on two wheels, our automotive interests are wide-ranging. Our publisher has an enviable car collection, our workshop editor, Dean, is a vintage snowmobile fiend, and I’ve been in love with the Morgan Super 3 ever since I test-drove it at the Malle Mile. So today we’re bending the rules, and bringing you a stunning three-wheeler that’s only really thirty percent motorcycle.

Dubbed the ‘MAC 2,’ it’s the second handmade three-wheeler from Indonesian engineer and vintage bike enthusiast, Cosmas Lili Sudrajat. Cosmas has a major crush on Morgan’s V-twin-powered three-wheelers—but they’re expensive and hard to come by in Indonesia. Luckily, he knows his way around a workshop.

The V-twin powerplant bolted to the front of the MAC 2 isn’t a motorcycle engine though. It’s out of a Mazda B600—a pint-sized, Japanese-made station wagon that was a hit in Indonesia in the 1960s. “The Mazda’s air-cooled 600 cc V-twin engine is the perfect size for a three-wheeler,” says Cosmas.

Once the Mazda B600 had been torn down to just its chassis and motor, Cosmas chopped off the rear half of the frame and installed a repurposed Honda swingarm. Repurposed 18” laced motorcycle wheels do duty up front, modified with cast aluminum MAC-branded hubcaps.
