FOUR FOR THE ROAD: Tim Whited’s Diverse Quartet Roars into the 2024 Scottsdale Auction

Tim Whited, a businessman with a longtime passion for collector cars, has been a familiar, always-smiling face at Barrett-Jackson events for two decades, usually with Pat – his wife of 35-plus years – at his side. The philanthropic couple have generously bid successfully on several Barrett-Jackson charity cars in the past, and Tim – a big-time supporter of STEM education – was a driving force behind the very first STEM Center (now known as STEM Fest) at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction back in 2018.

Now Whited is bringing a quartet of vehicles from his collection to the upcoming 2024 Scottsdale Auction. This captivating ensemble caters to all tastes, featuring a timeless 1935 custom Ford 5-Window coupe, a beautiful 1964 Buick Rivera, and the raw power of contemporary muscle with a 2008 Limited-Edition Z06 Corvette and a 2013 Cadillac CTS-V wagon. Each will cross the block with No Reserve January 20-28 at WestWorld.

The 1935 Ford 5-Window custom coupe, Lot #825, was fully restored and completed in 2018. Since then, the car has only been driven 1,306 miles, riding on new Smith wire wheels with disc brakes and Super Slider springs. Power is derived from a bored and stroked 1953 Mercury Flathead engine paired with a TREMEC T5 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive turning a 9-inch 4.11 posi-traction rear end. The Candy Apple Red Ford with its Cinnamon leather interior is equipped with power steering, Classic Instruments gauges and a banjo steering wheel.

Another offering from the Tim Whited Collection is Lot #664, a first-generation 1964 Buick Riviera nicknamed “Super Wildcat.” This model, one of 2,122 produced for 1964, boasts a potent 425ci Nailhead engine generating 360 horsepower, mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The Sunburst Yellow exterior, original wire wheels and white leather interior with walnut trim are among its distinctive features. The cabin offers front and rear bucket seats, a center console, a tissue holder and air conditioning.

Lot #718.1 is a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, the last of 427 made for North America. Car #427, the only 2008 Z06 finished in a Crystal Red Metallic Tint coat, houses a powerful 7.0-liter 427ci LS7 V8 engine with 505 horsepower and 551 ft/lbs of torque. The Dark Titanium leather interior includes a special Crystal Red trim plate. All 427 cars bear longtime Corvette plant manager Will Cooksey’s signature and number, with additional details like hood badges, engine cover emblems, and unique seat and floor mat embroidery. The car rides on spider-design chrome Z06 wheels.

Lot #693 from the collection is a custom 2013 Cadillac CTS-V wagon with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Notable upgrades include RideTech air-ride suspension, DMH electronic cutouts, a ZL1 blower and a custom SEMA tune. Exterior features include a carbon-fiber hood and ACE Devotion wheels. The interior offers heated front seats, a power UltraView sunroof, navigation and a backup camera. This wagon was built using the best available components for SEMA 2016, with upgrades totaling a reported cost of $29,000. The wagon has 26,714 actual miles and a clean CARFAX.

As the gavel falls and the final bids are placed, one thing is certain – these exceptional vehicles will find new homes, continuing their legacy with new owners who appreciate the uniqueness that defines the Tim Whited Collection. Register to bid today!

Final Encore—Bizzarrini P538

RACEPRO201308 p1

Photo: Casey AnnisThe 1950s and 1960s were a time of rapid change in both the road and racecar world. Technology was advancing quickly and with this advancement, it became increasingly harder and harder for a lone individual—either engineer or visionary—to be solely responsible for a complete automobile. Yet, some amazing vehicles were given birth during this time by some of the last of these automotive prodigies. One such automotive savant was Italian Giotto Bizzarrini. A tenacious and talented engineer and development driver, Bizzarrini either created or played a major role in some of the most iconic cars of the 1960s, including several built under his own name. Any true understanding of Bizzarrini’s cars, however, first requires an understanding of the man, as the two are virtually inseparable.

The author unleashes a healthy dose of the “Anniversario” Bizzarrini’s prodigious horsepower.

Born Survivor

Giotto Bizzarrini was born in June 6, 1926, in Quercianella, near Livorno, Italy. Born into a long line of engineers, it is perhaps not surprising that Bizzarrini would gravitate toward things mechanical. However, his early childhood years were more dominated by soccer and hunting, at least until World War II intervened. When the war broke out, Giotto’s father took up arms against the Germans, leaving young Giotto behind to fend for his family. During the war years, times were tough and much of what the Bizzarrini family had to eat ended up coming from Giotto’s hunting prowess. Bizzarrini would look back on these years of deprivation and state, “That period really influenced me for the rest of my life. It made me into a survivor, somewhat of a maverick.”

Saturday special: An elegant three-wheeler with a Mazda engine

Custom three-wheeler with Mazda engine and motorcycle parts
Although Bike EXIF is dedicated to art on two wheels, our automotive interests are wide-ranging. Our publisher has an enviable car collection, our workshop editor, Dean, is a vintage snowmobile fiend, and I’ve been in love with the Morgan Super 3 ever since I test-drove it at the Malle Mile. So today we’re bending the rules, and bringing you a stunning three-wheeler that’s only really thirty percent motorcycle.

Dubbed the ‘MAC 2,’ it’s the second handmade three-wheeler from Indonesian engineer and vintage bike enthusiast, Cosmas Lili Sudrajat. Cosmas has a major crush on Morgan’s V-twin-powered three-wheelers—but they’re expensive and hard to come by in Indonesia. Luckily, he knows his way around a workshop.

The V-twin powerplant bolted to the front of the MAC 2 isn’t a motorcycle engine though. It’s out of a Mazda B600—a pint-sized, Japanese-made station wagon that was a hit in Indonesia in the 1960s. “The Mazda’s air-cooled 600 cc V-twin engine is the perfect size for a three-wheeler,” says Cosmas.

Once the Mazda B600 had been torn down to just its chassis and motor, Cosmas chopped off the rear half of the frame and installed a repurposed Honda swingarm. Repurposed 18” laced motorcycle wheels do duty up front, modified with cast aluminum MAC-branded hubcaps.
