This week, John Summit revealed on Twitter that he is being sued by a promoter for the trademark to his label name, Off The Grid.
getting sued for trademark over my ‘off the grid’ label name by a small promoter even tho it’s a common phrase and i built up this brand 100% myself.. fucking sucks when ppl want to screw u over but it’s looking like i’m gonna need to rebrand guys :/
— John Summit (@johnsummit) July 18, 2023
Chicago native Summit is a House and Techno DJ and producer and one of the most promising emerging talents in the EDM world. He has his own label called Off The Grid Records—a House, Tech-House, and Techno music label, and he also hosts a radio show called Off The Grid Radio.
At the same time, there’s a promoter who runs a True Dance Music event in California called Off The Grid Campout. He claims that they had been using the name Off The Grid since 2018. However, Summit argues that he had been using the name for his label since 2020, and that he had filed for a trademark on the name in April 2022.
Summit said he is being sued for millions over the Off The Grid name and that the value of his brand comes from the people — his team and the community. He added, “in the end the name means nothing, the people is what matters and we ain’t goin nowhere“.
He also shared the Instagram account of the California festival. Said account is now private.
The lawsuit is ongoing, and it is unclear who will ultimately win. However, the case has raised some interesting questions about trademark law, particularly as it relates to common phrases. The phrase “Off The Grid” is not a unique or original term, and it is used in a variety of contexts. However, Summit argues that he has built up a significant brand around the name, and that he should be able to protect it.
The outcome of this case could have implications for other artists and businesses who use common phrases in their branding. If the court does rule in Summit’s favor, it could set a precedent that would make it more difficult for other businesses to trademark common phrases. It will likely be followed closely by other artists and businesses who might be in hot waters — and didn’t know until very recently.

Seattle Producer And DJ Subset Has Been Reported Missing
Seattle-based producer and DJ, Subset, has been reported missing.
Subset–real name Mark Martinez–was last seen in Tacoma, Washington on Wednesday, November 22, according to the Seattle Police Department and a Facebook group created by his sister, Diane, to aid in search efforts.
Martinez’s last known sighting was also on the same date he failed to show up for his gig at Seattle’s Q Nightclub.
Despite rumors on social media that Martinez had been found, Diane clarified in the same Facebook group yesterday that neither she, nor the police, have had any contact with him. Diane added that according to police phone records, his phone last had a signal on November 22.
“You can reach out to me or if you have any sightings/tips/info reach out to the Seattle Police,” she wrote. “Thank you so much. I will post the most accurate info here that I can. I need to find my brother. I will literally do anything.”
Martinez has long been an essential figure in dance music, becoming a staple performer at events like Camp Bisco, Holy Ship! and Burning Man, in addition to hosting and curating Webster Hall’s BASSment Saturdays parties in NYC; working as a Media Manager for Lost Lands; and earning a devout following via Twitch.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Mark Martinez—aka Subset—is urged to contact Diane Martinez at (210) 833-2461.
Additional details concerning Martinez’s last known location and appearance are available in the missing persons poster below.

Study Says Microdosing Psychedelics Helps with ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. It is characterized by symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, which can significantly impact daily functioning and quality of life. While there are various treatment options available, including medication and therapy, researchers are constantly exploring new avenues to improve the lives of individuals with ADHD. Recently, a groundbreaking study conducted by the Department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands has shed light on the potential benefits of microdosing psychedelics for people with ADHD.
The study aimed to investigate the effects of microdosing non-hallucinogenic psychedelics on mindfulness and personality traits in individuals with ADHD. Over the course of four weeks, nearly 250 participants were asked to repeatedly take small amounts of these substances, while their mindfulness and personality traits were measured. The results of the study were both intriguing and promising.
The Link Between Microdosing and Mindfulness
One of the key findings of the study was that over 80% of the participants reported practicing mindfulness. This suggests a potential connection between microdosing psychedelics and the cultivation of mindfulness in individuals with ADHD. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the present moment, without judgment. It has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental health, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving focus and attention, and enhancing overall well-being.
The results of the study indicated that trait mindfulness, particularly the aspects of description and non-reactivity, were significantly increased in individuals who had been microdosing psychedelics. This suggests that microdosing may have the potential to enhance mindfulness in individuals with ADHD, which could have a positive impact on their symptoms and overall functioning.
It is important to note that the study focused specifically on non-hallucinogenic psychedelics, which means that participants did not experience any psychedelic effects or hallucinations. Instead, they took small amounts of these substances that were below the threshold for producing any perceptible changes in consciousness. This approach was chosen to minimize potential risks and ensure the safety of the participants.
The Role of Microdosing in ADHD Treatment
The findings of this study have significant implications for the treatment of ADHD. Currently, the most common treatment options for ADHD include medication, such as stimulants or non-stimulants, and behavioral therapy. While these treatments can be effective for many individuals, they are not without their limitations. Some individuals may experience side effects from medication, or find that their symptoms are not adequately controlled. In addition, therapy may not be accessible or affordable for everyone.
Microdosing psychedelics could potentially offer a new and alternative treatment option for individuals with ADHD. By enhancing mindfulness and improving attention and focus, microdosing may help individuals better manage their symptoms and improve their overall well-being. It is worth noting that microdosing should always be approached with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional, as it is still a relatively new and understudied area.
Further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of microdosing psychedelics for ADHD. However, this study provides a solid foundation for future investigations and highlights the importance of exploring innovative approaches to ADHD treatment.
The recent study conducted by the Department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University has provided valuable insights into the potential benefits of microdosing psychedelics for individuals with ADHD. The findings suggest that microdosing may enhance mindfulness and improve traits associated with ADHD, offering a new and alternative treatment option for those living with the condition.
As with any new treatment approach, it is important to approach microdosing psychedelics with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Safety and responsible use should always be the top priority. With continued research and open-mindedness, the potential benefits of microdosing psychedelics for ADHD may become clearer, offering new possibilities for individuals seeking relief from the challenges associated with this condition.

Creamfields To Build Largest Indoor Stage Ever For 2024
Creamfields is going big for 2024, really big. The UK Music Festival took to Instagram to announce an incredible new stage for 2024. The APEX Stage will be the largest indoor festival superstructure ever.
Called ‘APEX’, it will have a capacity of 30,000. The stage will be open Friday-Sunday of the festival with an extended 4 am close time on Saturday. This is the latest end time of the festival to date.
Previous mainstages of Creamfields always featured a giant LED screen and plenty of production around it. However, given the unpredictable weather in England, this structure will shield festival-goers from the elements.
The pictures of the proposed stage look stunning. Creamfields will take place from August 22nd – 25th at Daresbury, Cheshire. It has a daily attendance of 70,000 over the 4 days. There are limited tickets available here.
