The GOAT: Tom Brady Has The Most Super Bowl MVP Awards Of All Time – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. is arguably the greatest ever quarterback to feature in the NFL. In fact, the New England Patriots legend is widely considered to be the greatest player of all-time.

Brady is one of the most recognisable names in the sporting world. His achievements and accolades during his stunning 22-year career will likely never be beaten.

Brady won the Super Bowl on seven different occasions. No player in the history of the NFL has won it more times. He also holds the record for most Super Bowl MVP awards.

Super Bowl MVP

The Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) was first awarded to Bart Starr in 1967. The annual award is given to those who are deemed the most valuable player of the Super Bowl.

The winner is selected by a panel of broadcasters and football writers. There are 16 in total who choose the MVP. Since 2001, fans are allowed to vote.

The award is one of the most prestigious that an NFL player can win throughout their career. To date, Starr and Terry Bradshaw are the only two players to have been awarded the MVP in consecutive years.

How Many Super Bowl MVP’s Has Tom Brady Won?

Throughout his glittering career, Tom Brady won five MVP awards. The legendary QB won it four times whilst playing for the New England Patriots.

His fifth and final award came in 2021, when he was playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady’s very first MVP award came at Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002.

Two years later, Brady won his second MVP at Super Bowl XXXVIII. He had to wait until 2015 to claim his next win, coming at Super Bowl XLIX.

His fourth and last MVP award for the Patriots came at Super Bowl LI in 2017. Former San Francisco 49ers star Joe Montana won three MVP awards during his career.

There are four players who have all won the MVP award on two occasions. Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Eli Manning and Patrick Mahomes are the players in question.

Who Was The Super Bowl MVP In 2023?

In 2023, the Super Bowl pitted the Kansas City Chiefs up against the Philadelphia Eagles at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

The Chiefs ran out 38-35 winners that day to claim the NFL Championship for the 2022 season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the MVP award.

It was his second win overall. Realistically, he is the only active player who has any chance of matching and/or beating Tom Brady’s total.

Mahomes first won the award at Super Bowl LIV in 2020. The Chiefs beat this year’s opponents 31-20 in Florida. Will history repeat itself again on February 11?

Who Is The Super Bowl 2024 Favorite?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is the current favourite to win the MVP award at Super Bowl 2024. If he does, the quarterback will have more than a genuine chance of catching Tom Brady’s total.

Since Brady retired in 2022, Mahomes has been the stand out star of the NFL. Not only is he one of the best in the business, Mahomes has a huge net worth which highlights just how pivotal he is to the Chiefs and the league.

With that being said, the San Francisco 49ers have their only darling quarterback who could spoil the Chiefs and Mahomes’ party. Of course, it is none other than Brock Purdy.

The 24-year-old was actually the very last draft pick in 2022, and what a journey he has been on since. The former Mr Irrelevant has every chance of landing his first Super Bowl MVP award.

Who knows what could happen in the future. Himself and Mahomes are more than capable of chasing down Tom Brady’s five Super Bowl MVP awards.

Adam Silver hinted at three potential cities for NBA expansion teams in the future

Adam Silver hinted at three potential cities for NBA expansion teams in the future – originally posted on Sportslens.com

While the NBA Finals are still going on, the offseason is approaching. Twenty-eight of the league’s 30 teams are already in their offseason. Boston and Dallas are still battling for the rights to be the 2024 NBA Champions. Ahead of Game 2 on Sunday night, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sat down with NBC Sports Boston.

Silver was asked about possible expansion in the NBA and where potential teams could be located. He was not able to give much detail, but Silver did mention how the NBA is working to see what is the best move for their league. Commissioner Silver mentioned Seattle, Las Vegas, and Mexico City.

When will the NBA expand the league past 30 teams?

As it stands, 29 of the 30 current teams in the NBA play in the United States. The Toronto Raptors are the only franchise not in America. What cities would be best for future NBA expansion? Talking with NBC Sports Boston, Adam Silver mentioned Seattle, Las Vegas, and Mexico City. Seattle is a market that would certainly be a fan favorite. They used to be home to the SuperSonics before the team was relocated and changed to the OKC Thunder. There’s no doubt Seattle would love to have a professional basketball team back in Washington.

There’s also Las Vegas, which would be a no-brainer. Several expansion teams have been added in other professional sports leagues. The NBA could follow their lead and make an expansion team in Nevada. Commissioner Silver also mentioned Mexico City as a possible expansion destination. The NBA has played a few games in Mexico City in the past. If made an expansion team, Mexico City would become the second team in the league not in the United States.

Expansion is not going to happen this offseason and the league needs some time to make that happen. They are currently in deep negotiations with NBC, ESPN, and Amazon for a new media rights package. Once that is all settled, then the league can start doing more research on expansion cities and teams. To keep the league at an even number, two cities will get an expansion team. One in the East and one in the West.

Yankees vs Dodgers Weekend Match Up Could Be World Series Preview

Yankees vs Dodgers Weekend Match Up Could Be World Series Preview – originally posted on Sportslens.com

The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers entered the 2024 MLB season as two of the favorites to win the World Series, and not much has changed in that regard over the first 2+ months. Both have commanding and growing leads in their respective divisions, and are still at the top of the odds list when it comes to championship likelihood.

Yankees vs. Dodgers Could Be World Series Preview

This weekend, the two powerhouses will meet for a three-game series in New York, which could very well be a preview for this October’s World Series.

Despite being 6 games behind the Yankees and in 5th place overall when it comes to the best record in the major leagues, the Dodgers are still the heavy championship favorites. Los Angeles will enter the weekend with a +290 designation to win the World Series, given their balanced attack and brutal batting order. They are currently 8 games up in the NL West, and have the second-best record in the entire National League behind the Phillies.

The Yankees are currently in second on the World Series odds list with a number of +500, but are arguably the best team in baseball right now. They have the most wins in the majors with 45, and are one of two teams (along with the Phillies) who have yet to lose a 20th game. They’ve won 8 in a row and 19 of their last 24, and have lengthened what was the smallest division lead in the majors to 4.5 games over the Orioles.

Both Teams Are Minus Money For This Weekend’s Series Overall

When it comes to the odds for the upcoming series, both teams are listed as minus-money. The Dodgers will be the slight favorites at -115, with the Yankees coming in at -105. The pitching matchup for the first game of the series on Friday will be Yoshinobu Yamamoto against Cody Poteet.

The success of the Yankees has plenty to do with star players Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, who are listed as the two favorites to win the American League MVP award.

No MVP In The NBA Finals For The First Time Since 1990, Second Time Ever

No MVP In The NBA Finals For The First Time Since 1990, Second Time Ever – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Some thought the NBA and its viewership might have some trouble during the 2024 postseason. Mainstays and playoff regulars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry were eliminated early in this year’s process, and the lack of star power was thought to have an effect on the interest surrounding this particular iteration.

No MVPs In NBA Finals For First Time Since 1990

And while it can be argued that some of the series that were played were lackluster at best, we have had some wildly entertaining matchups over the past two months. It will all be capped off by the Dallas Mavericks meeting the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, the latter of which will be the home team and overall favorite.

The matchup between the two sides should be a good one, with plenty of story lines and star power to boot, but perhaps a bit less star power than we are generally used to.

While he has been a perennial regular season MVP candidate, the award has never been handed down to Mavericks’ star Luka Dončić. Celtics wing Jayson Tatum regularly receives votes for most valuable, but has only ever finished as high as 4th place in the voting.

First Since 1990…Second Time Ever

In what is perhaps a surprising fact, this will be the first time since 1990 that the NBA Finals will feature teams that have no regular season MVPs on their roster, and just the second time ever. Most recently, it has been the aforementioned Curry and James who have given an MVP presence in the Finals, with Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan being the regulars that qualified in the early 2000s.

1990 marked the final year before Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls asserted their dominance over the league. It was the Detroit Pistons who took on the Portland Trail Blazers that season, with neither roster featuring an MVP winner. The respective stars for each team were Isiah Thomas and Clyde Drexler.

Drexler nearly won the MVP award two years after the 1989-1990 campaign, but was edged out by Jordan as he was in that season’s Finals as well.

Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals will be played in Boston on Thursday night. The Celtics are listed as 6.5-point favorites.
