Ashanti and Nelly announce they’re engaged and expecting a baby: ‘So excited’

Congratulations are in order for singer Ashanti and rapper Nelly.

The reunited couple have gone public with both a pregnancy and their engagement.

They shared the news exclusively with Essence magazine, which posted an announcement Wednesday on social media.

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” Ashanti, 43, said in a statement to the publication.

“Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

Ashanti had some fun with the news on her own verified Instagram account, with a video in which she’s seen preparing for a performance.

When her mother and manager Tina Y. Douglas asks her how much time she’s going to need in the clip, Ashanti quips, “I’m gonna need about nine months” as he mother gasps and the screen goes to a logo for Proov, an at-home fertility and hormone marker test.

In a statement to CNN, the singer said, “As you know, I am so close with my mom and dad, so I am looking forward to being an amazing parent to our child, like they were to me and my sister. Nelly and I are so excited to welcome and love on Baby Haynes.” (Nelly’s real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.)

Ashanti and Nelly, 49, confirmed in September that they were reunited as a couple, 20 years after they were first linked together in a relationship that ended after a decade.

Ashanti attended the MTV VMA Awards around that time, where Nelly was a scheduled performer. She carried a clutch with a photo of her and Nelly from when they attended the awards ceremony together back in 2003.

During an interview with E! News at the event, Ashanti said she thought the bag was “cute” and was asked if she and the Hot in Here star were in a relationship again.

After some laughing, she responded coyly with, “I mean…yeah.”

Nelly also came clean during an appearance with Love and Hip Hop Atlanta stars Rasheeda and Kirk Frost on her Boss Moves with Rasheeda show last fall.

“We cool again,” Nelly said. “I think it surprised both of us. It wasn’t anything that was planned.”

CNN has reached out to representatives for Nelly for additional comment.

‘When I look at her I feel hope’: Chris Martin’s moving public message to Kylie Minogue as she makes prestigious list

It’s official: Australia’s own Kylie Minogue is one of the most influential people in the world.

That’s according to TIME Magazine, which named her overnight on the TIME 100 Most Influential People 2024, with the Padam Padam songstress listed in the ‘Icons’ category.

“[Minogue] is so inspiring to me – she lives her life so gracefully and approaches every project with such passion and dedication,” Coldplay’s Chris Martin wrote of the Neighbours alum, noting how she is seemingly “10 years ahead of everyone else” at all times.

“When I look at her I feel hope. She’s proof there are humans who don’t judge,” Martin continued, explaining how Minogue – who has been a gay icon for decades – creates a safe space for everyone to be themselves.

This tribute to Minogue is customary; when a star is named as part of the list, someone close to each of the named 100 writes a testimonial to be published when the list is announced.

In Martin’s message, he explains how by the time he met Minogue at a Coldplay show during the band’s early days, he had actually been a fan of her for almost 15 years.

That was thanks to her role as Charlene Robinson on Ramsay Street, which Martin says he watched her play every day for a decade.

The Yellow singer described their first meeting all those years ago as “otherworldly”, though he was scant on the details as to what actually happened when their paths crossed in real life for the first time.

Regardless, Martin went on to assert how Minogue’s star, after all this time, has “never dimmed” and reiterate how it is a “privilege” and an “honour” for him to know her.

“She is deserving of every good thing that happens to her,” he concluded.

Minogue’s appointment on the prestigious annual list comes after a mammoth year of success, which saw her, among other achievements, win her first ARIA Award in 21 years for Best Pop Release.

She was also immortalised as a ’Padam Barbie’ doll for International Women’s Day.

Minogue herself took to Instagram to celebrate the achievement, writing: ”[TIME] …. Thank you for this incredible honour, being amongst such stellar company.”

“This is mind-blowing to me and is making my heart FULLY Padam!! One of the #Time100 … W❤️W,” she concluded.

Also named under the ‘Icons’ category by TIME Magazine was Taraji P. Henson, Elliot Page, Michael J. Fox, Motaz Azaiza and more.
