Top Jumps Owner Mike Grech Moves All Horses To Ireland – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Leading horse racing owner Mike Grech has announced today that he’ll be moving all his horses to Ireland, with top yards like Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Gavin Cromwell expected to get the bulk of Grech’s horses.

Former Cheltenham Gold Cup winning trainer Henrietta Knight manages Grech’s horses and told the Racing Post the main thinking behind the switch is because Mike Grech will be based more in Ireland in the coming years with offices in Dublin for his business interests.

Before the move, Grech’s well-known black and pink silks had been seen on horses housed in Britain at Nicky Henderson (4 horses) and one with David Bridgwater.

Knight told the Racing Post: “Mike is moving all his horses to Ireland because he’s going to be spending more time there in the future. He’s going to be working more over there, with offices in Dublin.”

Henrietta Knight is also a regular at the big sales and recently was very active and one of the main spenders at the Tattersalls Derby Sale – buying three horses for a total cost of €525,000 and two of those were purchased for Grech at around €200,000 each.

Brandy Love (Willie Mullins) is a big name that Grech owns too, who was an easy winner of the Grade 1 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final in April at Fairyhouse – you can back Brandy Love @ 8/1 with 10Bet for the Mares’ Hurdle at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

Knight added to the Racing Post: “Mike had horses with Nicky Henderson last year and is very fond of him. They’re great friends and it was tough for him to say he was going to move the horses across, but he feels he’d like to have them in the same country where he’s going to spend most of his time so he can see them run.”

Grech silksAnother well-known name for Grech is I Am Maximus, who was last seen running fourth behind Sir Gerhard in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, is one of the most prominent horses to switch stables, while Fils D’Oudairies, runner-up at both the 2022 Aintree and Punchestown festivals for Nicky Henderson, is a possible runner at the Galway Festival later this month.

“I’d imagine Gordon, Willie and probably Gavin Cromwell will train the horses now,” said Knight to the Racing Post

“Fils D’Oudairies is with Gordon. We’re hoping he’ll go to Galway for a hurdle race as Mike will be over for that. I Am Maximus is going to join Willie, and I think I Am Rocco will be heading there too.”

She added: “Fortunedefortunata, who won on his first start for David Bridgwater, is also going to Gordon. A couple of the young ones we’ve bought at the sales will probably go to Gavin.”

Why are the Emmys happening again if they just had a ceremony in January?

18

18 1

A new batch of Emmy nominations has dropped, which might seem perplexing, considering it was just yesterday that we were witnessing The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach kiss his cast-mate Matty Matheson square on the lips on stage at the Peacock Theater after their show won Best Comedy Series. Well, that’s what it feels like, anyway.

Moss-Bachrach and all the boys and girls of The Bear are back in force on this new list of nominees, even breaking the record for most nods ever for a comedy series in a single year, but no one can quite figure out what season they’re all being nominated for.

What about the Emmys that happened in January?

That’s an excellent question! In January, television’s biggest names flocked to the Emmy Awards red carpet for the show’s 75th edition. That event was initially scheduled for its usual September slot in 2023, purposeful and carefully timed to ring in new television seasons with a celebration of the last, but then a major Hollywood crisis broke out that you may or may not recall.

2023 was defined, in part, by a pair of dueling Hollywood strikes that put nearly every film and television production on standby from May to November. Not only did the writers and actors’ strikes affect release schedules, but they also prevented those in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA from working in any capacity, including participating in a telecast like the Emmys as presenters and hosts (they could still be there as nominees, but who would be handing out the awards and delivering all the bad jokes?).

Make no confusion, however; the 75th Emmy Awards count as the 2023 Emmys and, regardless of the change in broadcast date, the only shows eligible for that ceremony were still those that aired between June 2022 and May 2023. That is why seasons that aired long before the 75th Emmy statuettes were even handed out — such as season 2 of The Bear, which dropped June 2023 — count towards the Emmys happening this September. The January ceremony awarded the FX show’s first season. So, for the dissenters who didn’t like the show’s third season that recently came out, don’t worry, that one hasn’t even been nominated yet.

2023 was not the first time the Emmys were delayed

The ceremony is rarely moved to a different date, but it’s not entirely unheard of.

Take 2001, which saw the ceremony shifted by several months. The 53rd Primetime Emmy Awards were initially slated to air in mid-September, as usual, but saw two delays push the awards back by a good seven weeks. The initial delay was prompted by the 9/11 attacks, which devastated the nation just five days before the ceremony was initially slated to air, and the 53rd Emmys were later delayed yet again by the early-October commencement of the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan.

Which Show Got the Most Nominations for the 2024 Emmys?

33 2

33 3

For anyone betting on which TV shows would be nominated today at the Emmys, one title was a pretty safe bet. Throughout its run, the epic series Shgun was widely acclaimed across every aspect of its production, so it would be a shock if it didn’t get nominated at all. Now, with the nominations out, the series has made the cut and then some. The Hiroyuki Sanada-led series landed a whopping 25 nominations, the most for any TV series in 2024.
